Scarlett Johansson's superhero becomes highest grossing actress ever

Superhero roles used to be the definition of slumming it for the A-list actor.

But Scarlett Johansson is the latest star to benefit from the men in tights boom after her turns as the Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe helped it become the highest grossing actress ever at the US box office.
The 31-year-old's regular turns in some of the biggest tent-pole movies has saw her earn a whopping $3.332 billion at cinemas around the country.

This year Scarlett had massive hits with Captain America: Civil War, which made $404.3 million, and The Jungle Book, which earned $358.4 million.

Her solo appearances do not fare quite as well at the box office as her Marvel turns however, with her 2014 vehicle Lucy raking in a relatively paltry $126.7 million.
However, and rather appropriately how many of those screen icons are benefiting from his work, comics legend Stan Lee is actually the highest grossing actor of all time if his cameos are included.
