'Likely at least six dead' in Munich mall shooting - police source

Three armed assailants were involved in the shooting, said a police spokesman citing witnesses. He was unable to officially confirm the death toll.

"There are several dead and injured," a police spokeswoman said, without confirming the death toll of six.

The shooting spree began before 1600 GMT at a McDonald's restaurant and continued on a nearby street before the gunmen moved into the mall near the Olympic stadium in the southern German city.

Police have told people to stay in their homes or, if outside, to seek shelter indoors while the emergency remains ongoing.

The Munich police Facebook page said witnesses had reported seeing three different gunmen. Those witnesses also said there was shooting in nearby streets as well as inside the Olympia shopping mall.
