'What the hell do you have to lose?' Trump tells black voters
Following an overhaul of his campaign amid sinking poll numbers, Trump made smoothing out his rough edges a top priority.
The property tycoon expressed regret for saying "the wrong things" at times, and causing "pain".
Trump looked to capitalise with a direct pitch to his most elusive constituency: Black voters.
"Look at how much African-American communities are suffering from Democratic control. You're living in poverty, your schools are no good, you have no jobs, 58% of your youth is unemployed, what the hell do you have to lose?" he said.
Marlon Marshall, who runs Hillary Clinton's outreach to black voters, said: "Painting the entire African-American community as living in poverty shows he's out of touch with us."
